First Lutheran Church
1212 Minneapolis Ave.
Music ministry is an important part of life at First Lutheran. Several musical groups and opportunities enrich our worship and share the gospel in “letters and notes.”
Worship Music is provided by Kris McDonald. With a Viscount digital organ and a baby grand piano, we are provided with a variety of styles of music in our singing and reflection. Occasional string, brass and percussion instruments add spice and flavor to our praise of God and our celebration of the gifts of grace.
The Chancel Choir sings in worship frequently during the year. Directed by Kris McDonald, their anthems represent a wide variety of music and make use of the gifts of the choir members. Accompanied by organ, piano, rhythm instruments, and occasionally the flute and handbells, the choir seeks to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. Music is selected with an eye towards the Biblical texts used in worship that day.
The Chancel Choir also shares their gifts in other ministries. Each year a Christmas Concert is presented, and music is shared at other special occasions during the year as well.
Most impressively, the choir sings at every funeral at First Lutheran, making an important contribution to the pastoral care during times of grief and sorrow.
New members are always welcome in the choir. They enjoy singing, but most of all, they enjoy the fellowship they have in Christ Jesus.
The Handbell Choir presents occasional music and musical accompaniment using handbells. The members, led by Kris McDonald, are eager to “ring the gospel” with the beauty of handbell music.
Other music opportunities…
Guest musicians, both vocal and instrumental, add to the joy of worship. Soloists, groups, organists, pianists, and our Praise Band are a delight to hear as they share their gifts of music.
